Mission

Changsha smallsat builder behind the first commercial C-band radar satellite, now scaling toward a 28-satellite constellation.

Spacety flew satellites the way software companies ship releases. Founded in Changsha in 2016 by Yang Feng, it put roughly thirty smallsats up in eight years, science cubesats, technology demonstrations, and then its real product: small radar satellites, beginning with Hisea-1 in 2020, the first commercial C-band synthetic aperture radar at that scale anywhere, returning imagery within a week of launch.

The bet is that inexpensive, fast-iterating radar satellites can commoditize all-weather imagery in China the way Planet commoditized optical, with rideshare cubesat services paying the bills while the constellation grows. The cadence backs it up: its satellites have ridden nearly every Chinese commercial rocket flying, including six on a single LandSpace launch in May 2025.

In April 2026 it raised 1.3 billion yuan, largely from state-linked funds, to scale radar manufacturing toward a 28-satellite constellation, and began preparing a domestic listing. The business today is almost entirely Chinese and increasingly state-funded, and the constellation it has promised remains mostly ahead of it.

Something to know

In January 2023 the US Treasury placed Spacety under sanctions, alleging it supplied radar imagery of Ukraine to a Russian firm serving the Wagner Group; EU measures followed, and its Luxembourg subsidiary went bankrupt. Spacety denies the allegations. The practical effect is a business that is now wholly domestic, with Western customers, partners and investors off the table.
